Recording

This is the heart of why you’re here. From tracking live off the floor, to individual overdubs, to sampling and building beats, or recording audio for your video projects, we’ve got you covered. Paintbox Recording offers the best gear and experienced, creative staff to make your project shine.

First time in a recording studio?

We are pleased to work with new and developing artists who may have little prior studio experience. The process can seem a bit intimidating from the outside, but we’re here to help. We recommend an in-person meeting and studio tour to begin, so we can show you around, answer questions, and make you feel comfortable with the space and the process. We can help plan your budget, give you tips for preparation, and help make your recording sessions smooth and productive.

Film & Video

Paintbox Recording is a flexible, adaptable space that looks terrific in live music videos or interviews. The Live Room is a large enough yet intimate space to seat a live audience.

We have hosted numerous video sessions. The Live Room can be transformed quickly to accommodate whatever camera angles or scenes are required.

Mixing

The two most important components of a great mix are a creative engineer and an accurate monitoring environment. We have both.

We look at mixing as a collaborative art, and the artist is an integral contributor. When we mix your project, your feedback is essential.

Guest engineers and producers are also always welcome.

Producing

The role of music producer can be many things depending on the needs of each artist. This can include: assessing and selecting songs, co-writing, creating arrangements, contracting and rehearsing musicians, overseeing studio performances, adding instrumental and/or vocal parts, tracking and editing overdubs, mixing, and coordinating the mastering process. Each project has unique needs, and we will work with you to determine the most cost-effective approach. Please contact us to arrange a meeting and discuss your project in depth.

Voice-overs

We have worked on voice projects for broadcasts, corporate projects, podcasts, community programming, audio books, and more.

Remote recording

We do this a lot, and we’re good at it. For albums, demos, videos, and livestreams, we’ve provided remote recording services in places you’d expect and places you would not, including:

  • concert halls 

  • outdoor festivals 

  • barns

  • pizza joints

  • schools

  • basements

  • cottages 

  • churches

  • warehouses 

  • ski chalets, and more! 

We get great results with our fully portable Pro Tools rig and the same awesome collection of microphones and preamps from our main studio.

Tape Transfers

We can transfer and digitize your archival 1/4”, cassette, DAT and ADAT tapes. Please note some formulations of 1/4” magnetic tape require special baking to allow transfer. We do this too — contact Paintbox Recording for a quote.
